Fikru Woldmariam is a senior staff in the Ethiopian Power Electric (EEP), the national utility managing electricity generation, transmission and substation projects and operation throughout the country. He has been working for EEP since 1991 at different levels including Departmental Director and mega Projects Management.
He received his BSc. degree in Electrical Engineering from Addis Ababa University, Faculty of Technology in 1991. He is pursuing a postgraduate program in Masters of Business Administration (MBA) offered by Lincoln University, California-USA/Western University College in Addis Ababa through an extension program. He has also attended various short term training programs such as Electric Power and Transmission (Boryeong Education Institute-South Korea, Aug. 2010), General Project Management and International Procurement (SWECO International of Sweden – A.A., Dec. 2005). He is a member of the Ethiopian Society of Electrical Engineers.
He has worked as Deputy Project Manager for Gibe III Hydroelectric Project (consisting of 10 generating Units, 187 MW each, with a total capacity of 1,870 MW), commissioned in 2016. This was one of the mega hydro power projects being undertaken in Ethiopia. As Deputy Project Manager, he had made significant management and technical contributions for the successful completion of the project.
Since January 2016, he has been working as Project Manager for Geothermal Sector Development Program. Currently, he is managing the geothermal development projects under the Geothermal Sector Development Program, being financed by the World Bank, the Governments of Japan, Iceland and Ethiopia.
